Metis Arts - Four Men and a Poker GameAdapted from the short story by Bertold Brecht"Eat First, Then Morals": Brecht's Politics in Practice.Starting with a series of questions that encourage discussion, Director and Brecht specialist, Zoe Svendsen addresses contemporary politics and whether the group thinks they have the power to change anything, or indeed, whether theatre has the power to change anything. The workshop will then look at politics adn society int eh context of 1920s Berlin, introducing the foundations for Brecht's beliefs, why he wanted to work the way he did and what he wanted his audiences to experience. The techniques Brecht uses will then be explored from this perspective.This workshop is suitable for groups with prior knowledge of Brecht. Option 1: What Kind Of Performer Am I?
Aimed at FE students the workshop will offer exercises and international perspectives around the performer and their approach to the craft , as well as exploring the potential of deriving story through devising. It will also offer a perspective on the industry and the routes available to young performers.
Approximately 2 hours. Maximum 20 participants. £250 + VAT.
Option 2: Who Cares About Devising?
Working with HE students the main focus of this workshop will seek to engage the performers in the devising processes used by Freedom Studios that will lead to the creation of a 15 minute work in progress performance. The companies cross art form process will inform the devising process. The workshop will also offer exercises and international eprspectives around the performer adn tehir approach to the craft as well as pointers for life after training.
Option 3: Creative Writing For The Stage
This workshop aimed specifically at students interested in developing their skills in writing for theatre and performance will share the practice and approach of Artistic Director Amdani Younis in creating prose for the stage and the influence of cross art form disciplines in informing this process. Participants will undertake writing exercises which challenge their perception of the potential of the stage and potential routes into theatre writing will be discussed and demonstrated.
