BARRAS BRIDGE DEVELOPMENT

From Monday 7 April, the Barras Bridge site (the University car park in front of Northern Stage) has officially closed.

As part of the University's development of its campus, a new Student and Administrative Services Building is being built on this site, estimated to complete in October 2009.

"Situated on Barras Bridge, facing the Civic Centre, the five-storey, glass-fronted building will create a welcoming 'front door' to the University. A visitor centre on the ground floor will provide information and serve as a first point of call for visitors to the campus."  Newcastle University

Information for Northern Stage audiences

Parking
For Northern Stage audiences, the University car park on Barras Bridge will no longer be available for parking.  Northern Stage recommends Claremont Road car park, slightly further up Claremont Road opposite the Royal Victoria Infimary or Newcastle Civic Centre at the weekends.  Please see Newcastle City Council information on City Parking here

Access
Northern Stage main foyer entrance will still be accessible via the flight of steps on King's Walk.  For level access to Northern Stage, please use the entrance to the campus on Claremont Road (see above image) and the foyer entrance on King' Road (the foyer entrance closest to Stage 2).

Future plans
From January 2009, as part of the whole development of Newcastle University Campus, the steps leading to Union Lawn (immediately outside Northern Stage's foyer) will close for re-landscaping.  Once completed there will be level access in the form of a ramp and also a set of steps to Union Lawn, which will make for much better access to Northern Stage and the whole University Campus.

Please watch the website for details of the building work around the theatre, and we'll endeavour to keep you informed of all future developments on this page.

If you have any questions or special requirements during this period please contact us on 0191 230 5151 or email info@northernstage.co.uk and we will be delighted to help.

Please visit the Newcastle University website for further details on their campus developments.
