First in Three IIINorthern Stage
Building on the huge success of its first year, Northern Stage presents three more evenings packed with the most exciting new work by local theatre-makers, comedians and writers. Grab a drink, watch the shows, give your feedback and debate late into the night. STEVE DRAYTON “I’m nearly a 50 year old bloke and this is what I know about music” Mr Drayton is nearly a 50 year old bloke and over the years has had a continuing love affair with music. Like most men in the foothills of middle age he thinks he's right about everything, and when it comes to music he is. Join him for a giddy traipse through his take on the real speed of sound, why the north east is rubbish at music and see just what 80's pop starlets Banarama are up to these days as they join him live on stage*. *sort of. Steve worked for years as a stand up/double act but packed it in due to boredom, terrible 1st night nerves and family - this is the first step in getting back in the saddle as it were - this will be an hour long show by May next year. THE DOROTHY KEY The Dorothy Key (minus a few) are back for their second performance at Northern Stage. After performing their own wild outtake on George Orwell’s Animal Farm back in October, this freshly formed theatre group are eager to entertain again, with their vivacious, stylised, and contemporary comedy sketch that will not fail to have you laughing out loud. You will experience just a small slice of The Dorothy Keys physicality and great visual styles from this short piece, which is taken from one of their earlier performances, Conformity. The Dorothy Key aim to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe festival next year, so all comments or ideas will be fully appreciated. The Dorothy Key are hoping to spread their passion, talent and flare for theatre making anywhere and everywhere! JAYNE WARD OLIVER - STAND ‘Can't stand the heat?’ Jayne Ward Oliver is a new, local north-east writer, who is currently writing and directing a full length version of STAND, to be staged at Baron's Court Theatre, London, in February 2009. She has recently written and staged a play at Newcastle Keep, as part of The Late Shows. She has worked as a professional script-reader for a London Film and Television Production Company, as well as being a professional actress. STAND is a symbolic drama, set within the empty space, telling a story about a young woman who is being taunted for not taking the stand, to stand witness to a fatal shooting. The play poignantly explores the theme, that 'to stand' is far more than just to rise to one's feet. If you’d like to submit a proposal for the next First in Three on Thursday 12 February, please contact Kylie Lloyd at klloyd@northernstage.co.uk or on 0191 242 7213 before Monday 12 January.
